Drishyam 2 Shoot Won’t Commence Till Copyright Case Is Pending, Producers Assure High Court
Drishyam 1, which starred Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran in the lead roles turned out to be a huge hit. It was a remake of the 2013 Malayalam thriller film that stars Mohanlal and Meena. A few days ago, it was announced that Panorama Studios International had acquired the Hindi remake rights of Drishyam 2. Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd then moved the Bombay High Court seeking a restraining order against Panorama Studios International from producing any sequel of Drishyam franchise on grounds that it infringes their copyright. Now, Drishyam 2 producers have assured the Bombay High Court that they won’t shoot for the Hindi remake of the film till the copyright suit is pending.

Viacom 18 Media Pvt Ltd were the producers of the first part, and they have reportedly sought recognition and adjudication of copyright and other rights in the production of its sequel, which is a film that is actually a continuation of the previous story. The Bombay High Court, in its order, said that Panorama Studios won’t commence filming the sequel of the film, and that if they start with any pre-production work like script development, dialogues or anything else, it would be at their own risk.

PTI quoted the High Court saying, “The statement is that the defendants (Panorama) will not themselves or through any other person with whom they may have a contract or arrangement, begin shooting of the film in question i.e. a sequel to the film Drishyam".

The Malayalam film Drishyam 2: The Resumption released in February this year. ALSO READ: Drishyam 2 Actor Mela Raghu Passes Away at 60 After Battling A Critical Ailment
